Headed by Speaker Shaun Byneveldt, Western Cape Parliament Delegation paid a three day visit to Shandong Province, P.R.China during 26th and 29th of April 2006.

Mr. SHAO Guifang and Mr. CAO Xuecheng, duputy Chairmen of the Standing Committee of Shandong People's Congress welcomed the delegation. Both parties reviewed with satisfaction of progres gained in all aspects since Western Cape and Shandong became sister provinces, which they believe would be a strong impetus to the bilateral relations.

Formal meetings were also held with departments of Shandong Provincial government. During its meeting with the Department of Education, a imformation-sharing and student-communicating network was suggested. While further cooperation on technology, training and vegetable plantation was expected on the meeting with the Department of Agriculture. And the delegation agreed with the Department of Oceanic Administration and Fishing to work more closely on production of hybrid abalone, fresh water farming and vessel making etc.

During its stay, the delegation also visited farmlands in the Southern mountain area and toured the Jinan Qingqi Motorcycle Co., one of the flagship enterprises in Shandong.
