2010/06/29 Expo 2010 Shanghai China

Young musicians from all over the world will be taking part in the Shanghai Expo from July 4 to 18 as part of the "Young Expo" series of events.

More than 2,000 students from institutions including Sydney University, Harvard and Yale universities will perform at Exposition Square.

The musical styles will be wide ranging - from percussion, jazz, rock and folk to classical, dance and choral works. Music from Japan and China's Peking Opera will also be performed.

Among the groups are a 12-strong harp ensemble from Arizona University and the Oxford University Big Band.

An official opening ceremony and concert will be held on July 5.

The festival has been co-organized by Shanghai Fudan University. Other students will be from the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Australia's Canon Hill College, Tsinghua University, Beijing University, London's Imperial College, Hong Kong University, Taiwan University, Macau University and China's Taibei and Ritan middle schools.

Outside the Expo site, the young musicians will also be giving concerts at the Shanghai Concert Hall, at Xintiandi, in Gubei and at the KIC Plaza.
