BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has called for greater efforts to further push forward the country's international aid as this year marks the 60th anniversary of the cause.

"China's aid should favor the least developed countries, inland and small island developing countries, and focus on livelihood projects that are urgently needed and welcomed by local people, such as hospitals, schools, water supplies and clean energy," Wen said at a work conference held in Beijing on Friday to Saturday.

Wen said China's aid over the past 60 years had achieved much in terms of improving beneficiary countries' capacity for independent development, benefiting local people, cultivating management and technical talent for the countries and offering them medical services.

"China's international aid should continue to focus on improving beneficiary countries' capacity for independent development, helping them develop domestic industries and create employment opportunities," Wen said.

He called for greater agricultural cooperation with beneficiary countries and expanded human resource training programs.

"Assistance from local governments and civil societies should be fully mobilized," Wen said.

The conference was chaired by Vice Premier Wang Qishan, attended by State Councilor Dai Bingguo and delegates from the commerce, finance and foreign ministries. ' President Hu Jintao met with the delegates ahead of the conference, along with other senior leaders.
