Central gov't delegation brings practical gifts to Tibet

LHASA, July 18 (Xinhua) -- A delegation of the central government led by Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping brought practical gifts to Tibet as it arrived in the regional capital Lhasa to attend a series of celebrations marking Tibet's peaceful liberation 60 years ago, officials said Monday.

The gifts include 6,000 solar power television sets, 710,000 solar torches, 300,000 cold-proof stainless kettles, 710,000 stainless pressure cookers, 60,000 quilts, 150 computers, 120 sets of the Tibetan language version of Chinese Tripitaka, and 10,000 books, and will be given to Tibetan residents, primarily farmers, herders, retirees, teachers and school children, monks in monasteries, and soldiers and armed police, officials with the delegation said.

The gifts express the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the nation's concern toward Tibet, the officials said.
