Chinese President vows strict discipline regulation amid Party elections

BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao Monday called for strict implementation of Party disciplines amid elections of Party committees at all levels.

Hu made the remarks at a plenary session of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), the party's anti-corruption body.

The CPC will tighten supervision on the whole procedure of selecting and promoting officials and improve transparency, said Hu, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

The elections of CPC committees from the township to provincial level started last year. The CPC is expected to elect the new central committee at its 18th national congress, scheduled to be held in the second half of 2012.

President Hu also noted that the Party will improve education of senior and chief officials in its newly-elected organs.

Newly-elected members of CPC committees should keep developing a correct attitude towards their work and stick to the principles of putting people first and serving the people, Hu said.

Acknowledging the anti-corruption efforts made by the CPC organs, governments and discipline regulatory agencies in 2011, the President warned of the tough situation and difficult challenges to curb corruption.

"We should be fully aware that the battle against corruption is time-consuming, complicated and difficult," he said. "We should have firm confidence and step up efforts."

The CPC will step up the inspection on the implementation of key policies introduced from the central level, including the decisions reached at the fifth and sixth plenary session of the 17th CPC Central Committee, he said.

The Party will also check the implementation of policies concerning the economic and social development in regions inhabited by ethnic minorities.

The meeting was also attended by other senior CPC leaders including Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, and Zhou Yongkang.

He Guoqiang, head of the CCDI, presided over the meeting.
