On January 9, Consul General Kang Yong expressed his heartfelt thanks to Wilderness Search and Rescue, Table Mountain Nation Park and the Cable Car Company for their rescue efforts made in Table Mountain climbing accident on January 1, in which a tourist from Hong Kong, China and a South African guide lost their lives. To whom it may concern,
On the New Year's Day, the table mountain climing incident, which took two lives and left several hundred stranded on top of the table mountain, touched the hearts of all Capetonians and local Chinese communities alike. One of the deceased is a female tourist from Hong Kong, China. While we are deeply saddened by the loss of the lives of the young lady and the South African guide, we are also obliged to express our sincere gratitude for the timely and professional rescue work done by the South African related institutions in this emergency case. We especially appreciate the great importance and repect you have attached to human life and expertise you have displayed. Therefore, on behalf of the survivor, the deceased family and the Chinese community at large, please convey our heartfelt thanks to all the staff involved in the resuce work.
