On 2 July 2026, Consul General Ren Faqiang met with Gabriel, Chief Executive Officer of Cape Town Opera. The two sides exchanged views on deepening cultural and artistic cooperation between China and South Africa.

Consul General Ren Faqiang said that art constitutes an important bridge for cross-cultural communication. This year is designated “China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges”. The Consulate General is ready to actively boost cooperation between art institutions, so as to further advance people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and South Africa.

Gabriel stated that Cape Town Opera hopes to draw on China’s sophisticated experience in opera troupe and theatre management, and launch more exchange programmes with Chinese partners.
