On 28 October 2026, the 2026 MIP Africa opened at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, where the China Showcase” promotion event was held on the same day. Wang Xiao, Acting Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Cape Town, was invited to attend and deliver remarks.

Acting Consul General Wang Xiao stated that, though separated by vast distances and blessed with distinctive cultures, China and Africa share common values and emotional resonance. In recent years, people-to-people exchanges between China and Africa have kept gaining momentum. As an important medium, Chinese audiovisual works have reached African audiences and won wide popularity. It is expected that the Chinese and African audiovisual industries will further deepen cooperation, building bridges through screen stories to foster people-to-people bonds.

A total of 16 outstanding Chinese audiovisual institutions set up booths at this year’s MIP Africa, showcasing and promoting more than 50 high-quality audiovisual programmes and cutting-edge audiovisual technologies. Acting Consul General Wang Xiao toured the China Pavilion and gave media interviews.
