On 18 July 2026, Consul General Ren Faqiang attended the Mandela Day celebration and a ceremony for the donation of teaching equipment to Ysterplaat Primary School in Cape Town, organized by the local Chinese community. Hon. Les Govender, Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, together with teachers, students, parents and members of the local community, attended the event.

In his remarks, Consul General Ren stressed the importance of carrying forward Nelson Mandela’s spirit of dedication and social responsibility. He highly commended the generosity of the local Chinese community in supporting education and helping to improve learning conditions for students. He noted that such initiatives help enhance mutual understanding between the Chinese and South African peoples and contribute to the enduring friendship between the two countries.

Deputy Chairperson Govender and representatives of the school expressed their appreciation for the Chinese community’s long-standing support for local education and its active fulfilment of social responsibility. They also thanked the Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town for its continued support.
