From September 27 to 29, 2026, Deputy Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town, Wang Xiao, paid a working visit to Nelson Mandela Bay in the Eastern Cape, extending Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day greetings to the local overseas Chinese.

The working group conducted consular outreach to provide on-site document services and address consular inquiries, and visited several Chinese-owned supermarkets and wholesale markets, asking owners to strictly abide by local laws and ensure regulatory compliance. The working group also toured the BAIC South Africa plant to inspect its production lines and learn about its business operations and localization progress.

During the visit, Deputy Consul General Wang met with Brigadier Loyiso Ngalo, the Acting SAPS Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, to discuss the local security situation and exchange views on safeguarding the personal safety and property of Chinese businesses and tourists.

In conjunction with this consular outreach, Deputy Consul General Wang attended the 2026 Graduation Ceremony for Chinese Studies at Confucius Institute at Rhodes University on the 28th. She encouraged graduates to embark on a new journey, continue improving their Chinese proficiency and serve as bridges for China-South Africa People-to-People exchanges.
